Measurement and Layout Prerequisites

Before any Skill Points or Credentials may be earned, the Layout and Measurement prerequisites must be passed. These prerequisites consist of selected operations for the Tape Measure, Combination Square, and Calipers.

The assessments for these Credentials are included in the purchase price of your enrollment and Passport. No Assessment Credits are used for these Points. A candidate must attain Level 1 or 2 (as appropriate) on the prerequisite operations for each of these layout and measurement tools before being permitted to earn any skill points or credentials.

While you can test the prerequisites in any manner that you wish, the most efficient, and highly recommended, way to assess for layout and measurement is to use the WCA measurement widget and associated work sheet and the Layout Worksheet and Widget, all of which can be found in Evaluator Documents and Forms.

Below are the operations required for each of these tools:

Tape Measure:  

1.1.1  Measure Lengths (U.S. Customary) – Level 2

1.1.2  Measure Lengths (Metric) – Level 2

1.1.3  Measure Inside Dimension – Level 2

1.1.4  Distribute Marks Evenly on Stock – Level 2

Combination Square:  

1.2.1  Verify Material Squareness – Level 2

1.2.2  Layout for Perpendicular Cuts – Level 2

1.2.3  Layout for Angled Cuts – Level 2

Calipers:  

1.3.1  Measure Thickness – Level 2

1.3.2  Measure Depth – Level 2

1.1.3  Measure Inside Dimension – Level 2

1.1.4  Measure Center Dist. From Edge – Level 2
